November 30, 2012

Blessings:

  1. Um…hmmm…we adopted our Gavinator yesterday. (Yes, this is a day that has me kinda searching for the blessings.)
  2. My mother-in-law provided our dinner so I didn’t have to cook. Whew.
  3. Fancy and Salia came and visited today.
  4. Gavin took several independent steps – it’s the first time he’s turned away from what he’s holding and just started walking.
  5. The craziness of this week is over – I think.

November 29, 2012

Introducing Gavin Christopher Scrivner!

Blessings:

  1. Today was Adoption Day!
  2. Gavin is OURS!
  3. Have I mentioned that our beautiful boy is legally ours now?
  4. I can show his face! Isn’t he precious?
  5. I can call him Gavin!

We’re just a tiny bit excited. My Little Man is truly my little man now! He was his perfectly sunny, happy, joyful self the whole time – even while waiting for our turn with the judge.

Yay!

November 28, 2012

Blessings:

  1. My mother-in-law was not seriously injured when she slipped in the shower and hit her head. We spent some time in the ER, but she’s doing fine.
  2. This last day of waiting before Adoption Day went very quickly!
  3. Tomorrow is Adoption Day!
  4. Little Man is finally over his cold. Whew! He was runny-nosey, cranky, mouth-breathy sick for 2 weeks!
  5. We get to spend some extra time with Nana – she’s staying with us for a couple days instead of being alone at home with a concussed head.

November 27, 2012

Blessings:

  1. Quote of the day from Caleb:
“Mom, this one is purple and pretty. It’s purple – your favorite color, and pretty – just like you.”
  2. I was able to share some motherly wisdom (I hope) with my daughter. Parenting is not for wimps.
  3. Jemimah allowed me to work in peace this afternoon – that was an excellent thing because my migraine didn’t allow me to work in the house with the kid noise.
  4. Only two more days ‘til adoption day!
  5. I stole some quiet time at the end of the day – ahhhh…peace.

November 26, 2012

I lost my marbles. Ken found them. He says they're cracked - that's how he knew they were mine. Gotta love my sweetie!

Blessings:

  1. We had a quick, shortened school day today – it’s not that I don’t like school, but some days seem sooooo long. Today was so quick it was really quite fun.
  2. I had a chance to spend a little bit of time visiting with a friend I don’t get to chat with often. She’s a blessing to me, and I hope I am to her also.
  3. Our church can pull an impressive meal together in a very short amount of time. It is such a joy to serve with these people who have such giving hearts.
  4. Our Christmas tree is up and decorated. I always love the lights. It would be nice if the kids were as excited about cleaning up afterwards as they are about the ornaments and stockings.
  5. We watched Elf as a family during/after the tree trimming. I love that movie, and I love that we get family time!

November 25, 2012

So much for a pre-lit tree. After 5+ years, it's not so much pre-lit anymore. (Caleb took this shot - I cropped it.)

Blessings:

  1. Coffee. I love coffee. I especially love it when I mix my normal French Roast with a bit of Boca Java’s chocolately roast. Mmmm…
  2. Christmas lights are not important in the grand scheme of things. (Good thing – this could have been a disastrous day if they were vital.)
  3. I enjoyed making banana bread with two of my boys today. I can’t prove that I made it – we wiped it out at brunch – but it was fun.
  4. We have a great church family full of helpful people.
  5. I have a bunch of my Christmas shopping done.

November 24, 2012

Two instruments at one time... Sorta. Oh, and ya gotta love “Chicken Leg Boy.” He’s pantless because there’s not enough of him to keep pants on. But you don’t need pants for dancing to your own tunes, right?

Blessings:

1. A pantless baby dancing – that’s a blessing for sure!

2. We had a family day today. We took the kids to Hamilton for some shopping, had lunch out, and came home and did “stuff.” Fun times.

3. My oldest daughter is fabulous!

4. I am so thankful to have my mother and my mother-in-law close by, reasonably healthy, and able to life with me.

5. My life is good.

November 23, 2012

Pizza diptych

Blessings:

1. Revelation 7:12 -
Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength
be to our God forever and ever. Amen.

2. I took a nap today! A good one! It’s a good thing – I was exhausted from yesterday.

3. Homemade pizza. I haven’t made it in a long time, but it’s a family favorite. I used this recipe for the crust, (the best crust recipe I’ve ever used!) Prego sauce, seasoned ground beef (garlic, onion, Italian seasoning, salt), cheddar cheese, and parmesan cheese. Yummmmmmmmmy!

4. Fabulous Felice and I spent the afternoon Black Friday shopping online. We had fun and found a great deal on something she wanted. Whoohoo!

5. It’s been a great, low-key Friday-after-Thanksgiving!

November 22, 2012

Happy Thanksgiving!

Blessings:

1. Ken, Dale, Andrew, Austin, Kristi, Nathan, Caleb, Little Man, Fancy, Damian, Salia, Barbara, John, Mom, Felice, Tracy, Rose, Virginia, Richard, and Judy. (These are the people I shared the wonderful meal with today.)

2. Thanksgiving Day! I love the parade, the food, the family and friends… I just love it.

3. My kids really worked hard at getting the house ready for company today.

4. Felice’s mashed potatoes and Barbara’s turkey gravy – the combination is probably what they serve in Heaven.

5. Little Man’s best laugh of the day came after the company was gone (that’s too bad – the grandmothers would have loved it!) – he had whipped cream on a spoon and he thought it was hilarious! He would stick his finger into it and laugh and laugh. That was all he did – there was nothing particularly amusing, except for his amusement. I never realized that a spoon full of whipped cream was so funny, but now I see his point.

November 21, 2012

Thankful tree centerpieces.

Blessings:

1. Music. I love music.

2. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving! I’m not at all ready (especially mentally), but I love Thanksgiving.

3. My darling cooked dinner tonight. He’s the best.

4. The kids cleaned the kitchen today!

5. I was able to get half my work day finished in peace and quiet in my car while Kristi had her therapy sessions. Yay! I love that! I also love that my job allows that.

November 20, 2012

Since I can’t share the photo I really want to, I share this snap of today’s weather. Crazy for November 20.

Blessings:

1. I love, love, love the song 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman.

2. I just discovered that although I haven’t really played the guitar in a gazillion years, I can still play enough to pick my way through 10,000 Reasons.

3. It’s not cold outside. In fact, it’s crazy warm.

4. Little Man only has a minor ear infection, and he’s starting to feel better already.

5. I love the flexibility of my job.

Monday, November 19, 2012

November 19, 2012

Blessings:

1. No school! That means we had a very relaxed start to this Monday. Yay!

2. I’m feeling a bit better. Yay again!

3. Nathan has been having heel pain for a week or so, and I decided to take him to the doctor to make sure we weren’t missing something important. It turns out to most likely be plantar fasciitis – no brokenness – so we have some exercises and strategies to relieve that. Yay for it being so minor!

4. Orange juice.

5. I enjoy good, spiritual conversations with my husband.

November 18, 2012

Blessings:

1. I’m still breathing. I might be doing it through a very stuffy nose and around a terrible headache, but I’m still doing it.

2. We had enough food ready around here that I didn’t have to cook anything for the family today.

3. I was able to nap through most of the morning.

4. I got a few things done while the family was at church.

5. No school tomorrow!

November 17, 2012

This was my favorite cell phone shot from our bowling afternoon. My 13yo was helping 4yo(?) Lilly. Sweet kids.

Blessings:

1. We celebrated Ken’s birthday today by going bowling with friends. It was a fun afternoon!

2. Nana cooked Ken’s favorite dinner for our family tonight. Yummy stuff!

3. Ken was able to fix his broken phone screen. He’s awesome, and he saved us a lot of money!

4. Little Man made me laugh many times today. He’s just getting so funny and involved in everything.

5. I get to go to sleep early! Yay! (I’m exhausted tonight.)

Friday, November 16, 2012

November 16, 2012

Blessings:

1. Squash pie is better than pumpkin pie. :-)

2. Date night!

3. Ken and I had a wonderful dinner at The Montana Club, and then we rolled ourselves out to the truck, squeezed into the tiny little cab, and then headed off to waddle around WalMart.

4. Nana came and spent the day with us and babysat the kids while Ken and I had our evening out. I love having helpful parents close by!

5. I’m still meditating on mercy (see Nov. 14) and I am trying to show mercy toward my children more often. That’s harder than it sounds, but when I consider that God renews His mercies toward me each day, I guess I’d better at least make an effort to do the same for my offspring.

November 15, 2012

I was practicing bouncing my flash.

Blessings:

1. I had an encouraging note from my manager. That’s always nice.

2. Homemade chili – a quick, easy dinner. I can’t believe I didn’t ever make it until about a year ago.

3. Pandora played three of my favorite worship songs in a row today. That made me smile.

4. I love my husband.

5. My kids are very creative – they made up a game with fake coins this evening that kept them entertained for quite a while.

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

November 14, 2012

I pulled off to take a cell phone shot of the clouds hanging low in the valley today. It was actually quite pretty down in Hamilton today.

Blessings:

1. It was a calm and peaceful trip to therapies today.

2. I even got some work done while I was in Hamilton.

3. Christmas shopping!

4. There are only 15 days left until Little Man is a Scrivner (yes, I’m a bit excited).

5. God’s mercies are new every morning. Lamentations 3:22-23

Well friends, I have kept the word verification turned off for this blog to make it as comment-friendly as possible, but the spam has gotten so bad that I can’t take the time to deal with it anymore. I hope you will continue to leave comments – don’t let the word verification scare you away!

November 13, 2012

A rafter of turkeys came to visit at my friend's house today. Don't they realize how close it is to Thanksgiving? Well, this one was checking me out while I was checking her out.

Blessings:

1. Getting the school day done. Some days we just breeze through. Whew!

2. Ladies’ Bible Study. I’m enjoying the group of ladies we have.

3. A reasonably peaceful evening.

4. I was able to distract Kristi from her bad attitude before it became a full-blown meltdown.

5. All my needs are met.

Monday, November 12, 2012

November 12, 2012

Blessings:

1. My beloved husband. Today is his birthday. I am so thankful that I have him – he’s the best man I know.

2. Answers. We had our Kristi-Rose-Toes evaluated to see if she has an Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the team concluded that she does. Some people may consider that a problem or a negative diagnosis, but I consider it a very helpful tool in our toolbox. Now we can get some additional assistance that is specifically directed at her needs. I am quite relieved to know that what we’re dealing with is a brain wiring issue.

3. Kristi and Nathan had a lot of waiting to do today, and they both did it very patiently. I am thankful for well-behaved children.

4. I was able to spend all birthday with my sweetie.

5. Despite a serious lack of sleep, I made it through the whole day without crashing.

Sunday, November 11, 2012

November 11, 2012

I finally did “school” pictures of my kids today.

Blessings:

1. I am so thankful for the men and women who protect our freedoms. May I never take for granted what so many have given their lives to preserve.

2. I took some much-needed photos today. I took the kids “school” photos and a family shot that I can’t share until the 29th. Oooohhh…I can’t wait until the 29th!

3. I had a couple hours of “alone” time in my own house today. I used it editing photos, and it sure was quiet! (I wasn’t completely alone – Little Man was napping – but it was close enough!)

4. I got see Fancy and baby Salia today, and I was able to hold Salia for a while. I miss tiny baby cuddles!

5. Bear Creek Potato Soup mix is very good, and makes for a wonderful, quick dinner after an evening church service. Dip a slice of fresh french bread in it, and it’s fabulous comfort food on a chilly Sunday.

November 10, 2012

We stack ‘em up in Scrivnerburg.

3. Party planning!

4. Christmas shopping!

5. Gooey Chocolate Pudding Cake.

3. This will be our 6th child to be adopted during National Adoption Month.

Thursday, November 8, 2012

November 8, 2012

Blessings:

1. I spent almost all day at home today. Yay!

2. Winter has come, and I don’t mind it at all. It’s November – it’s time for winter weather.

3. We had some good news that is not ours to share yet – but I’m so so so excited!

4. I am thankful for a job that I can do sitting in my comfy chair – I re-tweaked my back and if I had a standing job it would be totally miserable. Yay for a comfy chair!

5. I did not have to work all evening. Whoohoo! I love evenings when I can spend time with my sweetie.

November 7, 2012

Photo blessings…

1. 2012-11-07 09.02.36
I love playing with this adorable little guy!

2. 2012-11-07 10.06.05
I had one-on-one time with my precious youngest daughter today. Her life is not always easy, but she’s an amazing little girl.

3. IMAG2274-picsay
Kristi took this shot of the rainbow we saw on the way to Hamilton. (I did have to straighten the photo.)

4. 2012-11-07 09.17.37
Caleb gets very frustrated, but he’s really doing well in school. I think he gets frustrated because he doesn’t know everything right now.

5. picsay-1352381786
I had a little help folding the laundry. Very little help.

Bonus blessing: We got everything done today AND had a family dinner at the table. Whew! It’s just been so unbelievably crazy lately! I’m really looking forward to a day at home tomorrow.

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

November 6, 2012

We had such a beautiful sunset today.

Blessings:

1. “May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” 2 Peter 1:2 – Peter prayed that grace and peace would be multiplied – not added or given. I just love the thought of God multiplying…”grace times peace equals…” Whatever that product is called, I want it!

2. I was able to exercise my right to vote. I am thankful that I get to share my opinion.

3. It was a gorgeous, gorgeous day!

4. I had the opportunity to take some photos of a sweet family that I just love. They are celebrating their adoption with family photos – Yay!

5. I don’t have to put up with political ads for a long, long time!

Monday, November 5, 2012

November 5, 2012

This little stinker gives all his kissies to Daddy.

Blessings:

1. School went fairly smoothly today. Mondays can be hard after having a late Sunday night, but today was pretty mellow. No real meltdowns, and most of the kids were done by lunch time.

2. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:3-5 ESV

3. I’m so thankful that I have a husband who does laundry.

4. My boys are getting old enough to actually get the kitchen cleanish. Whew!

5. Have I ever mentioned my love of Blue Bunny Mint Bon Bon? Smile (Or as Kristi calls it, Mint Bomb Bomb.)

Sunday, November 4, 2012

November 4, 2012

Blessings:

1. Making cupcakes with Caleb. He’s really excited about cooking these days, and he specifically wanted to take cupcakes to the church potluck, so he got to make them. He did really well – I wanted to eat them all before church!

2. I spent a significant amount of time planning our Adoption/Family party. I can’t wait to celebrate our amazing family!

3. Two of our sons were baptized today. Baptism doesn’t get you to heaven, but it shows a heart that wants to follow Jesus, and it thrills me that my boys both wanted to be baptized.

4. We had a fun potluck after the very special service at church. It was a great evening in God’s house.

5. God answered my prayer to relieve my back pain, at least for the day. Yay!

Saturday, November 3, 2012

November 3, 2012

Blessings:

1. As you can see in the photo above, we had a bit of down time today. It wasn’t a totally low-key day, but after this last week, even a little bit of down time is helpful.

2. We finished up our Operation Christmas Child boxes. I’m excited to see where they go. (Doing 6 of them is quite an undertaking!)

3. We set our clocks on Saturday (for Daylight Savings adjustments), so we get an extra hour of Saturday!

4. Ken heard from a friend we haven’t talked to in many years. It’s nice to know that we’re on someone’s mind, even if we haven’t chatted in years.

5. Caleb wanted to take a bath tonight (instead of a shower) so he could practice "bathtizing" before tomorrow. He's very excited about getting "bathtized."

Friday, November 2, 2012

November 2, 2012

I think Kristi likes Little Man's walker better than he does.

Blessings:

1. I Peter 2:10 – “you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” God made me part of His people. I didn't belong anywhere and He brought me into His fold. I needed mercy and He gave me mercy.

2. We have filed our adoption paperwork with the court. Now we wait for our court date. I’m so excited!

3. My sweetie took care of dinner. He’s awesome.

4. I got to hold the lovely Salia again today. She seems so so so small!

5. We made more progress in getting answers for our Kristi-girl. We finished up the paperwork and got the date set for her next evaluation. I’m eager for that because I’m really looking forward to more answers. They’re like tools in the tool box – no one answer covers everything, but each tool makes our job a little easier.

Thursday, November 1, 2012

November 1, 2012

Blessings:
1. We got our adoption paperwork!! Now all we have to do is file for a court date and Little Man will be a Scrivner!
2. I took the kids to the hospital to see their new niece today – they all behaved perfectly, and the niece was appropriately appreciated.
3. The lovely ladies at the front desk at Marcus Daly Rehab are awesomeness personified. They let me leave 5 kids in the waiting area while I took 2 kids at a time to visit Fancy, Damian, and Salia.
4. It’s been a crazy-amazing week in Scrivnerburg!
5. Even with all the craziness I managed to get my work day done before bed time. Whew!
