I worked on studio lighting a bit more today. I have been scouring YouTube for lighting videos, picking the brains of my photography friends, and practicing on anybody who stands still near my studio. I tried some different things that didn't work as well...but that's okay. It's all a learning process.
(Thanks to my precious friend Felice for being my model - without prior notice.)
We have frost on everything...we had pretty, long hoarfrost earlier today, but a breeze came up and blew all the nice long "spokes" off the frost. Grrr.

Both are great photos today. Your lighting in the first looks better. I think you have more light in the eyes of you subject today. Great catchlights and a great distiction between the pupil and iris. Great job! The frost one is beautiful!
I wish Felice has been smiling he's so pretty when she amiles. You wouldn't need all the lighting if she smiled.Bassetcase
Lighting's not bad, although some one once told me catchlights in the bottom half of the eye s is a no-no, but I dont know how to tell you to fix it. I think it indicates the camera is higher than the light source, but I could be wrong....
Love the berries on the frosty tree.
I know nothing about lighting but what a pretty berry shot!
Great practice Elli. Catch lights (I heard) should be at either 11 o'clock or 1 o'clock. You might have to move the light higher or lower depending on your subject.
I know nothing about lights...sorry I can't help! I LOVE the frost shot!
Elli,
disregard what I said earlier. After my post I concentrated on how some pros (who work for magazines) do it and they had all sorts of catchlights in all different areas of the eyes. So as long as you got catchlights you're good! LOL I'm learning right along with you!
