The Daily Shoot Abstract assignment

My sweetie and my littlest man bought me white roses the other day. I love white roses! I especially love the look of the rose as it is unfurling...it's like abstract art!

I finished my purse!!

Instead of lining it I used a Kangaroo Keeper - it works perfectly!

Oops! I let my blog slide...

...for a few days. So I'm catching up...

Dale is working on a trebuchet-type catapult for the science fair. He and Ken built this a week or two ago, and now they're modifying and testing and modifying a bit more.

 My camera battery died on me just as they were getting a good fling - I missed the shot. :-( But these will probably be helpful for Dale's science fair presentation.

(For those who pay attention to such things, I dated my blog post to the right date so I would know when the pictures were taken.)

A Trip to Town

We live about 35 miles from Missoula, Montana. That doesn't seem too far, but for some reason it's far enough that my mom and I don't get to "town" more than once every couple months. Today was the day for our first trip of 2011. My mom, my mother-in-law, our chaperone, Caleb, and I went to the big city. We didn't have any really exciting plans - Costco, Best Buy, WalMart, Famous Dave's - but the trip took us 8 hours. Whew!

While we were waiting for our lunch at Famous Dave's I handed my cell phone to Caleb to keep him occupied. Here are a few photos he took. (He deleted most of them, which was fine - they weren't very flattering!)

He actually does pretty well taking photos most of the time. He clears distractions out of the background, he tries different perspectives, and he usually gets the important parts in the frame. He also doesn't get things in the frame that shouldn't be there, like fingers and obstructions. He learning photography early!

I do wonder why he kept the shot of my boots, though. I think his shot of the paper towel roll was actually better.  

Filling the frame

The photo assignment at The Daily Shoot is to fill the frame with the subject. This subject worked perfectly for that because I don’t want the whole thing showing – this is a gift for someone, and just in case she peeks in on my blog, I don’t want to give anything away.

Caleb told me today that he wishes he was cuter. How on earth could this kid get cuter? Then he told me he was going to pray to God and He would make him cuter “at the night.” If God makes him even cuter, I’m in trouble!

Repeating patterns

The Daily Shoot assignment today is “repeating patterns.” One repeating pattern for me is that I forget plans and appointments because I neglect to put them on the calendar. Here is our new calendar, and a new repeating pattern – writing appointments on it!

On another note – the weather guru just said, “Into the deep freeze tonight.” Hmph. I don’t really want a deep freeze tonight. Oh well…I’ll probably just stay home and hibernate during the cold weather anyway. We’ve had wind the last couple days, and that has actually kept Andrew and Nathan inside. Those two will play outside in all sorts of conditions, but I guess wind and cold isn’t among them. They actually stayed in and watched VeggieTales today.

I’m off to finish work and then I’m going to watch Chuck with my sweetie. Thanks for stopping!

Sunday Science

Andrew and Caleb saw Ken's Galileo Thermometer today and wanted to know how it worked. I knew how to tell the temperature with it, but I didn't know how it worked, so I did the only logical thing. I Googled it! Now I know! After explaining it to Andrew and Caleb, and taking it outside to watch it change, then back in to watch again, I decided to capture the colors with the window light shining through. It's a fun, useful, and pretty implement that provided us with a Sunday Science lesson!
